Ricardo never planned to be a composer or a producer. However, as he looked back on his life experiences he had growing up, it lead him to believe that he was supposed to be. He was always the chatterbox type of kid, filling every classroom with a charismatic energy and an infectious smile. He had a sense of rhythm from a very young age. As an immigrant child to Canada, he found creative ways to interact with classmates growing up as he learned English. He would connect with others through music in school and dance classes in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. He always excelled at music, starting out with the percussion instruments at school. As he went through Elementary school, he joined the handbell club, recorder club, and started doing little short plays in church fuelling his creative spirit. He was the type of kid you'd expect singing little solos and a proud member of the annual churches kids Christmas and Easter choir.

As Ricardo continued to grow up, he joined band class and fell in love with classical music again. He played trumpet at the time and fell in love with the individual elements that compose a concert band. He also started taking private drum-set lessons from Glen Matthew’s, a djembe course by Jay Stoller and started experimenting with creating original music. During his three years in high school, Ricardo joined a Jazz band, started three bands, and wrote his first acoustic pop album on guitar. On top of all that, he helped lead worship in the church he grew up, culminating in a deep knowledge of drums, bass, guitar, piano, and vocals. Ricardo even had a brief stint as a freestyle rapper as his tastes in music started to come to fruition. He didn’t know it then, but all these coincidences and opportunities would come together in his bottomless passion for creating emotionally dynamic music.

Fast forward to Ricardo’s first short film, where on set he overheard the director say they were searching for a composer. It ignited something in him, so much so he jumped at the opportunity wholesale and committed everything he had in him to create his first piece “Longing”. In some mystical way, that piece transcended the film itself. It told a love story, but it also told his story; the story of a boy longing to prove himself to the Vancouver film world. Since that piece, he’s been challenging himself to give more to his music, to transcend the conventional parameters behind scoring and create pieces with love and intense attention to detail. To this day, he longs: longing to touch the lost, and those desperate to feel. The same infectious enthusiasm Ricardo brings to every conversation he brings to producing music, sound designing theatre, and composing films. Ricardo may not know what his future holds, but he’ll fill it with love, joy, and profoundly deep music emanating from his very own Vancouver studio.
