FAQs

How did you end up producing beats alongside scoring films?

Just like I wrote about film scoring in my biography section I sort of, fell into it. A Vancouver client of mine who in the past asked me to write lyrics and vocal coach asked me to produce a beat. I realized I had the equipment to produce beats as the things needed to compose and song write are similar to those used for producing, and I happen to have an ear for it.

What was your aha moment when it comes to writing music as a profession?

I keep getting these to be honest. My first one was when I wrote my first piece Longing and I first believed I could be a composer. My second one was when I produced the beat “Whoa” and I realized I have an ear for producing. My third one occurred during my first studio session as a music director/vocal coach.

How can you tell when a piece you’ve written is done?

To me a piece is done when you can no longer add or take away an individual element to make it better. More technically stated, when the levels are all balanced, each track is Eq’d/treated, all the automations are written, and everything feels like it fits right - then it’s done.

What are some weird rituals or quirks that you have?

I drink tea every morning religiously - mainly because I hate coffee but need a warm drink for my throat. I like wearing scarves and jeans in summer, don’t know why still. I think faster than I can speak so I speak at a speed better suited for aliens.
